Making Mooncakes with North Point Alliance Church
This video was shot during 2021 during that years Mid-Autumn Festival featuring North Point Alliance Church annual sponsored class in teaching Housewives and/or single mothers looking to supplement their house income by acquiring new skills such as how to make Mooncakes.
A mooncake is a Chinese Delicacy traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn festival (MAF). MAF is about lunar appreciation that is held on the 15th of August of every year, when the moon is at its fullest. Mooncakes are offered and shared between family and friends during gatherings while the festival is being celebrated.
A typical mooncake is made up of two components, namely, the crust and the filling. Fillings of Cantonese-styled mooncakes usually include lotus seed paste. Whole salty duck egg yolks are often found encased within the lotus seed paste to mimic or symbolize the full moon. Meanwhile, the crust of a Cantonese-styled mooncakes has a characteristic reddish brown tone to it with a glossy sheen.
Having fashioned fillings into appropriately-sized dough balls, fillings are then enclosed with rolled out crust dough. Then pre-baked mooncakes are molded into shape using a cake mold. The fillings used in the video are of the green tea (green) and/or the pumpkin (orange) varieties with vibrant-colored crusts to match.
Finally, baked mooncakes are individually packaged and boxed into finished products as you can see at the conclusion of this video.
